V-Cast: PK and Comp break down season opener
EAST LANSING - Michigan State kicked off their 2009 campaign with representatives from the Rose Bowl in the press box and lopsided 44-41 win over Montana State on the field.
After the game was over and interviews had been conducted, SpartanMag.com staffers Jim Comparoni and Paul Konyndyk gave their initial thoughts on Michigan State's 2009 season-opening win over Montana State.
The Spartans' 44-3 win over the Bobcats provided the largest margin of victory during the Dantonio era.
Michigan State was able to generate the lopsided win by teeing off on the Montana State secondary thanks to the inspired play of sophomore quarterbacks Kirk Cousins and Keith Nichol.
The two sophomores had accounted for 318 yards passing and five touchdowns on a day when Michigan State outgained 493-160 in total offense.
Comparoni and Konyndyk spent a lot of time discussing the play of both sophomores as well as the play of Michigan State's three-back rotation of Caulton Ray, Edwin Baker, and Larry Caper.
Other topics of conversation included the injury to center Joel Nitchman who left the game on the final series of the first half with a sprained knee. Nitchman was replaced by John Stipek and Ethan Ruhland a red-shirt freshman with significant upside.
