Bishop is the latest true freshman to play
NC State unveiled two more true freshmen last Saturday during their 65-7 win over Murray State at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh. Offensively, it was center Camden Wentz. Defensively, it was safety Brandan Bishop.
For Bishop, it was the latest twist since he has been to NC State. The Boca Raton, Fla., native signed with NC State as a three-star safety prospect, turning down offers from West Virginia and Pittsburgh.
When he arrived at preseason camp however, the defensive coaches decided to try him out at strongside linebacker, or SAM, under the tutelage of linebackers coach Andy McCollum. Then with just a few more days in camp left, Bishop was moved to safety, a position he admits he feels more comfortable.
