Barkley's toughness shines
Matt Barkley still has to prove he's a champion quarterback. He has to prove that he can lead USC to wins on a consistent basis. He needs to prove he can make the easy throws as well as the tough ones. He still has to prove that he will live up to all the promise.
But when it comes to toughness, Barkley's already shown enough.
While he might have the blonde hair, the surfer vocabulary and the California grin, he's playing like he's made of steel.
Two weeks after leading USC to a come-from-behind win at Ohio State with an injured throwing shoulder, Barkley proved to be the right guy to lead the USC offense in the Trojans' 27-6 win over Washington State Saturday at the Coliseum.
"He's a soldier," wide receiver Brice Butler said. "He's got nothing he needs to prove to me."
