Bruins get ready to travel to Stanford
The Bruins concluded a solid week of practice. Now all remains is the game and that will start in just a little more than 24 hours this young football team will once again have its mettle tested on the road against a very tough and physical Stanford team. Special teams could play a prominent role in this game.
It was the UCLA's special teams and defense that helped propel them to victory in a hostile environment when the Bruins played Tennessee.
The Bruins have put in the work on special teams.
"We have seen that return (against Washington), at least five times," Bruin kicker Jeff Locke said. "So we have seen what not to do."
Hopefully Locke will use his powerful leg to get the ball deep into the end zone, which would prevent, sophomore special teams standout and wide receiver Chris Owusu from hitting a homerun on a kick return.
UCLA head coach, Rick Neuheisel spoke with the media after Thursday's practice.
Neuheisel: "We're excited about this game as we continue to nail down the finer points of the plan and make sure we go play a great football game.
How do you think the defense is responding to the Toby Gerhart challenge right now?
Neuheisel: "I think they are well aware that this is going to be a physical test and so far they have met them so I'm excited about watching them compete again."
