Sunday Evening with Neuheisel
One thing that UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel made very clear during his weekly Sunday Evening chat was how pleased he was with the play of the defense. He also had some kind words to say about the offense, but he would like to see more consistency on the offensive side of the football.
Neuheisel: "I was pleased with the effort. Pleased with the ability to up there and block out any of the things that you worry about on a trip like that where weather or different surroundings and so forth, I think the guys did a nice a job of being excited to play and for the most part played pretty clean, especially defensively. We did a really good job playing as a team, defensively again.
"Guys being where they are supposed to be, celebrating and getting to the ball, think we held them one for 11 on third downs so those are key things. Those are what you are looking for as you are building your defense back for a very important stretch run.
"Offensively, I still wish we were a little more consistent, but the throwing game has gotten more consistent, especially when Kevin Prince started taking what they were giving him and three games in a row with over 300 yards passing is going in the right direction.
"Now we just need to become a consistent group, because I think we are going to be playing the best defense that we have seen in Arizona State. I think this is a really, really talented defense and play really well together.
"I have not watched the Oregon film from last night, but Oregon presents different problems, but I have watched the SC game and they (ASU) fly to the ball. How they fly to the ball. How they have all the fits exactly right. Their corners are very aggressive.
"It's a good group that we are playing so we are going to have to play a great game on offense and see if we can't play our last home game for our seniors and be great and play really well."
