NU Notes: Young running backs getting looks
Nebraska running backs Cody Glenn and Marlon Lucky are both battling injuries as of the end of Saturday, but that has also opened the door for the younger running backs to show what they can do on the practice field.
Glenn, who was out on Saturday morning with a hamstring injury, could be back within the next few days according to head coach Bill Callahan. On Saturday after practice and the first scrimmage so far during fall camp, Lucky left the field with a possible concussion.
"Our doctors will check that and see if where he is at now compared to the baseline and if he can get out and practice if his baseline is in order," Callahan said. "If it's not, and he's a little bit ahead of that, then we'll hold him for a day or so."
Callahan says that Glenn, like Lucky, will be on a day-to-day basis with a hamstring injury. With the two running backs out, Callahan commented that he's also had a chance to see a lot of younger players on the roster at that position.
"It's gotten a little lighter these last few days with Marlon and Cody being out, but once those guys get back in the mix, I think we've got a pretty standard core of running backs that really balances the board," Callahan said. "We've been reping everyone - with Major Culbert, Quentin Castille, we really worked Roy Helu, so those young backs have done an outstanding job as well as Marcus Mendoza.
