Countdown to camp: Five under fire
The start of fall camp is now just 26 days away with the first Missouri practice set for Monday, August 4th. PowerMizzou.com is in the midst of exhaustive previews of every aspect of the most anticipated camp in Tiger history. Fall camp is important for everyone, but each year, there are a handful of players who are under a little added pressure to perform. In today's preview, we take a look at five such players:
Gilbert Moye: Moye nearly played last season as a true freshman, but kept his redshirt on. He should be competing with Del Howard for time as the third safety/nickel back this fall, but he will also probably get a strong push from freshman Zaviar Gooden. The Tigers are going to play four safeties in most seasons. If Moye can show he has picked up the position well, he should be one of those four and be in line for a starting spot in 2009. There isn't immediate pressure, but expectations were high for Moye and he has a shot to show why this fall.
Andy Maples: Maples briefly fell behind two redshirt freshmen (Terrell Resonno and Dominique Hamilton) this spring, but has regained his second-string spot entering fall camp. Maples has a couple years of eligibility left, but if he can't hold off the youngsters (we hear Bart Coslet has moved to defensive tackle as well), it is tough to see how he will see the field much as a Tiger.
Beginning on Thursday, PowerMizzou.com will have an in-depth breakdown of the Tigers at every position on the field as they enter fall camp.
