January 7, 2011The Daily Collegian is reporting tonight that Penn State true freshman quarterback Rob Bolden intends return to the Nittany Lions to study and compete for the starting job this spring.
According to the report by Collegian staff writer Audrey Snyder, Bolden's high school quarterbacks' coach, Don Buchanan, said that Bolden will in fact return to the University Park campus this weekend.
"He'll be back at Penn State Sunday and in school Monday," Buchanan said in a telephone interview. "He expects to compete for the starting quarterback job and will go through spring practices and everything."
Bolden, who expressed his desire for a transfer on Sunday night following the Lions' loss to Florida in the Outback Bowl, has relented to coach Joe Paterno's request that he return for the spring semester.
After his request for a transfer was denied by Paterno on Tuesday, Bolden and his father, Robert Bolden Sr., returned to their home in Michigan.
After thinking through his options, Bolden expressed clearly his intent to return to Penn State, Buchanan said.
""He thought that was his best option at the time and now who knows," Buchanan said. "The only thing for certain is he's coming back to Penn State, going to spring ball and will compete for the job."
Blue White Illustrated has made repeated calls to the Boldens which have gone unanswered. We'll have more from this story as it continues to unfold.
