March 16, 2011In February, Olive Branch (Miss.) junior D'Arthur Cowan started his tour of college visits with a stop in Starkville for Mississippi State's junior day. The month of March also has Cowan taking trips to see BCS programs.
"I went to Arkansas' junior day this month and it went pretty good and it was okay," said the 6-foot-3 and 180-pound receiver. "It was just good to see their campus and they have a big campus. It is pretty far from home, too. I do want to get away from home for college but I also want my family somewhat closeby.
"I am also going to Georgia Tech this weekend. I am going to a Nike combine in Atlanta this weekend and I am going to see Georgia Tech, too."
Also this month, Cowan picked up his fifth offer when Arkansas State joined the likes of Mississippi State, Arkansas, Southern Miss and Memphis.
"It is a good experience to get more offers and have more schools interested in me," said Cowan, who had 31 catches for 658 yards and eight touchdowns last year. "It just makes me want to work harder and it just motivates me."
Recruiting and traveling is not all that Cowan has on his plate these days. He is also running track for Olive Branch and their first meet is right around the corner.
"I am doing the high jump and also running with the 4 x 200 relay team," Cowan said. "Next week is our first meet and then we have a meet at Mississippi State the week after that."
And speaking of the Bulldogs, Cowan said they are still the frontrunner for now and added he is taking his time before he makes any kind of decision.
"Mississippi State is still my favorite team," said Cowan. "I can't wait to get back to see their program and I would love to see their spring practice. Coach (Angelo) Mirando and I have a good relationship and we are still building it up.
"But I am just taking my time and I may make a decision before my senior season starts. I am not really sure yet what factors will go into my decision. I just have to see what fits me best and pray about it. I just have to just pray about it and God will put me in a good spot."
