July 7, 2011While many prospects are out on camps tours this summer Long Beach, Miss., three-star defensive tackle Nick James has kept relatively close to home.
The 6-foot-5, 325-pounder has been working a job as well as getting it done in the weight room shedding 10-pounds from his massive frame.
"Recruiting has been going pretty good," James said. "This summer I've just been working out and working. I'm working on my flexibility."
The only camps James has made it to this summer is a lineman camp at Gulf Coast (Miss.) Community College and a Team USA camp in Atlanta. His busy schedule has kept him off the road so far but has an in-state visit planned this month.
"I'm going up to Mississippi State on the 22nd," James said. "I'm going to check out their little thing. Their coach seems real cool. My cousin (Darion Arrington) is up there. I'll really know about that school when I visit."
James stated that he has not talked with Arrington since he enrolled at MSU last month but planned to.
James has several top offers on the table including Arkansas State, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Tennessee but a commitment does not appear on the horizon.
"I'm going to wait," James said.
As a junior James tallied 33 tackles and three sacks helping plug the middle for his linebackers like Richie Brown. That defensive duo helped lead Long Beach to a 10-2 record and a birth in the Class 5A State Playoff.
James expects the Bearcats to be even better this fall.
"For my senior year I think we are going to dominate," James said. "We're going to be pretty good."
James is rated as the No. 36 defensive tackle in the country by Rivals.com
