April 25, 2012Pitt added an offensive lineman to the class of 2013 on Wednesday when Plymouth (Ind.) guard Dan Samuelson committed to the Panthers.
Samuelson picked Pitt over offers from Illinois, Minnesota, Northwestern, Wake Forest, Western Michigan, Wyoming, and Bowling Green.
"We've done a lot of hard discussions about it in the last couple of days," Samuelson's father, Tom, told Panther-Lair.com Wednesday afternoon. "He will say the same thing that there were just so many people that we've met that he'd like to play for them all, but you can't do that.
"It's a situation where we know people around Pittsburgh, we have connections there, and every time we go to Pitt, having that group of friends, there's just a connection to Pennsylvania and Pitt. That has aided us in making this thing work."
Samuelson and his family visited Pitt earlier this month and left with rave reviews.
"It was absolutely wonderful," Dan Samuelson told Panther-Lair.com at the time. "They treated us very well - my mother, father and I - and it was just a great visit."
At 6'5" 290, Samuelson is listed as a three-star offensive guard prospect on Rivals.com, but the Pitt coaching staff has told him that he would get an opportunity at both tackle and guard.
Samuelson is the second offensive linemen and the fourth prospect overall to commit to Pitt in the class of 2013, joining Chambersburg guard Aaron Reese, Seton-La Salle tight end Scott Orndoff, and G.A.R. Memorial defensive end Shakir Soto.
