Turns out Cole Luke will be seeing plenty more of Notre Dame.
The four-star cornerback from Chandler, Ariz., got his first look at the Irish program over the summer during an unofficial visit. He saw Notre Dame again during the season-opener in Ireland. He took an unofficial visit to South Bend during the Michigan weekend. Finally, Luke saw Notre Dame one more time last weekend during the historic upset of Oklahoma while on an official visit to the Sooners.
Five days later, Luke committed to Notre Dame, Irish Illustrated has confirmed.
Luke becomes Notre Dame's 22nd commitment and third cornerback in this class, following Rashad Kinlaw and Devin Butler. The pledge boosts the Irish recruiting class past LSU and Michigan in the Rivals.com rankings to No. 2 nationally, now trailing only USC.
Luke's commitment completes a recruiting comeback by Notre Dame, which was perceived as trailing Oklahoma and Texas following the cornerback's official visit to South Bend. But buoyed by an 8-0 start, a national title contending season and a defense ranked among the nation's best, the Irish continued to gain ground on the Longhorns and Sooners.
Turns out handing Bob Stoops his fifth home loss in the past 14 seasons made an impact on Luke. The Irish sensed that they'd worked their way back into this recruitment earlier this week, with Luke calling in his commitment on Thursday morning.
Luke is coached by former Notre Dame quarterback Steve Belles at Hamilton High School.
Check back on Irish Illustrated for more on Luke's commitment later today.
