January 30, 2013Pitt coach Jamie Dixon is exploring several options for recruiting the center position in the class of 2013, including the junior college ranks. Regardless, the position will be a priority for the class of 2014 as well, and one center prospect that seems to be near the top of that list is 6'10" and 260 pound Adonis DelaRosa from Christ the King in New York City.
"I am hearing from Pitt as much as any other school right now. There are others like Miami, Memphis, and Tennessee. At this point, I don't have any favorites and there are more schools showing interest. I'm open to everyone right now.
"Coach Bill Barton is recruiting me for Pitt. Our relationship is good, as well as Coach Dixon and I. I am going to visit Pitt at some point but I just don't have a date planned yet."
Despite recent struggles at the center position, Pitt did have strong center play for the majority of the last decade and true freshman Steven Adams has shown promise thus far. As a kid, Adonis remembers those days and is still intrigued by Pitt's interest.
"Pitt has a great coach that knows the game and how to use big men."
The lack of depth at center is a recruiting issue that the Pitt staff will need to look into now that [d]bMalcolm Gilbert[/db] is out of the program. The lone true center on the roster is freshman Steven Adams and it is unclear just how long he will remain on campus.
With limited options available at center in the 2013 class, the best bet at this point may be for Dixon to scour the JUCO ranks, but he'll also have to restock the position going forward.
