July 12, 2008The small town of Mabank, Tx, located about 60 miles from Dallas, is the location of ULM's commitment Kolton Browning. Browning became the fourth commitment for the Warhawk's 2009 class.
"I attended a mini-camp, met with the coaches, and then they offered me," Browning said of his brief courtship with the ULM coaching staff. "The coaching staff is great," Kolton said with a loss of further explanation.
Last season, the team implemented the Tony Franklin spread offense, an offense that ULM will face in the season opening game at Auburn. In Mabank's implementation, the Panthers passed seventy percent of the time, for a total of 410 passing attempts. Throwing this many times, Kolton threw for over 3,000 yards and 26 touchdowns. The other thirty percent of the offense was on a ground attack that allowed Browning to rush for nearly 1,000 yards and 15 scores.
In addition to putting up amazing numbers on the gridiron, the 6'3" future Warhawk is also the reigning District 13-3A MVP in basketball and baseball. Head baseball coach Jeff Schexnaider will gain the services of Kolton, but not until after his freshman year. "Coach Weatherbie said I can play baseball, but I have to complete my first year as only a football player, as long as my grades are good, so I'm excited about that," Kolton said.
Others showing interest were Rice and Tulsa.
