LSU has finally announced that it will open the 2010 season against North Carolina in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

The game will be a nationally-televised prime-time contest. ABC has handled the broadcast of the game the previous two years.

"This is a great opportunity to showcase our program on a national scale against a top program from the ACC," LSU Athletics Director Joe Alleva said. "This will be an exciting way to start the season. This will be a great experience for our fans."

The Tigers and Tar Heels have not played in football since 1986. LSU won that game in Tiger Stadium 30-3. The Tigers have won five of the six previous meetings against North Carolina.

"This game will mean a great deal of exposure for our football program," LSU coach Les Miles said. "Atlanta is a great city and a place that has always treated us very well."

LSU announced some additional changes for its 2010 and 2011 schedules. The Tigers will not play Tulane in either season. LSU will play host to McNeese State on Oct. 16. The Cowboys will be the first in-state FCS school to take on the Tigers.

LSU is also scheduled to play non-conference games in 2010 against West Virginia and Southern Mississippi. However, sources in the athletic department have said that the game against USM will be pushed back to 2011.

The Tigers will play Louisiana-Monroe on Nov.13.

LSU announced Wednesday that it will play host to Northwestern State, another in-state FCS school, in 2011. The Tigers will also travel to West Virginia during that season.

"By scheduling McNeese and Northwestern State, we are keeping money in the state and providing financial assistance with the game guarantee to two of our fellow universities here in Louisiana," Alleva said.

"It makes sense for us to play games against in-state schools when our schedule allows rather than bringing in a FCS school from another state."

On its official schedule, LSU still needs to find two opponents for 2011. Reportedly, Southern Mississippi will fill one of those spots.

In 2010, the Tigers will play Vanderbilt, Florida, Auburn and Arkansas on the road. Mississippi State, Tennessee, Alabama and Ole Miss will visit Baton Rouge.

In 2011, LSU will play Mississippi State, Tennessee, Alabama and Ole Miss on the road. Kentucky, Florida, Auburn and Arkansas will visit Tiger Stadium.
