Guice ran for a career-best four touchdowns – two covering 45 yards. For the season, Guice now has 1,249 rushing yards – the seventh most in a single season. The only LSU players with more rushing yards in one year are Fournette, Charles Alexander, Jeremy Hill, Kevin Faulk and Dalton Hilliard.

LSU DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME

Although the Tigers allowed 39 points – their most in three years, Texas A&M only had ten points until late in the third quarter. In the early portion of the game, safety Jamal Adams made some key plays. Adams finished with five tackles, including two behind the line of scrimmage. Adams also sacked Knight one time.

WHY LSU WON

Former LSU assistant John Chavis had no answer for the Tigers offense. The Texas A&M defense couldn’t stop Guice, who ran for a school-record 285 yards, or contain Etling, who threw for 324 yards. The LSU defense didn’t have a good night as it allowed four touchdowns. However, three of those touchdowns came after the Tigers had jumped out to a 34-10 lead. Still, this victory belonged to the offense.

FROM THE LOCKERROOM

Coach Ed Orgeron’s comments: “We wanted to be the most physical team on offense tonight. I am so happy for Derrius (Guice) and the offensive line. They all worked so hard all week. With Leonard (Fournette) not there, Derrius had to step up. He did a very good job of that. Danny Etling is a warrior. He is a competitor. He managed the game well. We fought together. It was next man up. I appreciate the way the people have supported me. I’ve never been treated like an interim (coach).”
