My swing got too long. I was not short to the ball.”

FROM THE LOCKERROOM

Coach Paul Mainieri’s comments: “Hitting is the most difficult thing to do in all of sports. You have to hit the ball hard and then have it find holes. We were very fortuitous tonight. We hit balls which found some holes. But, we had some terrific at-bats against (James) McArthur. He was giving up about five hits a game. That was no slouch pitcher we did that against. The guys just rose to the occasion tonight. Lange got some early-pitch outs. Ole Miss didn’t hit the ball too bad in the first two innings. But, they hit the ball to the opposite field where the wind was blowing in.”
