LSU’S PLAYER OF THE GAME

Jordan, who had just two hits all season, delivered two singles and a double. Jordan played a factor in the Tigers’ first two runs. He had a leadoff double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Robertson in the fifth. One inning later, Jordan singled to send Coomes to third base. Coomes then scored on a pinch-hit single by Duplantis. Jordan’s other hit was a single with a runner on first base in the second.

Jordan’s comments: “Going the opposite way has been my approach all year. (Hitting coach) Micah (Gibbs) just told me to sit back more. I had been coming out on my legs a little bit. Baseball is a funny sport. I had more hits today than I had all year. That’s just how baseball works. All you can do is give it your best shot. You have no control of it after the ball leaves your bat.”

NOTES

The actual crowd was about 6,200. . .Alex Lange will be the starting pitcher for the Tigers against TCU on Friday.

FROM THE LOCKER ROOM

Coach Paul Mainieri’s comments: “That was an outstanding game by both teams. Nicholls’ pitchers were real good. Nicholls played as well as we did. I loved the way we played. What jumps out the most was our bullpen. This was the sharpest outing for Hunter Newman. We didn’t hit the ball that poorly. We had 11 hits, a few clutch hits. We hit some balls hard. Your season is defined by what you do in one-run games. In those games, you do it with clutch relief pitching, defense and enough offense.”

UP NEXT
