LSU’S PLAYER OF THE GAME

Papierski was involved in two of the three innings in which LSU scored runs. Papierski scored when Robertson grounded out to the second baseman. Then, Papierski broke a 3-3 tie with his two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh.

Papierski’s comments: “It was huge to come back and score right after Auburn tied the game. Once they score runs, you have to work your butt off to come right back at them. Josh Smith made an error (in the top of the seventh), but he didn’t hang his head. He worked that at-bat and got a walk against one of the best pitchers in the SEC. Then, I got a fast ball and I put a pretty good swing on it.”

FROM THE LOCKERROOM

Coach Paul Mainieri’s comments: “We did a tremendous job against Keegan Thompson. He is always totally in control on the mound. Our players did a great job although we did not have a lot to show for it. We had a lot of good at-bats where we barreled up some balls. We hit a lot of balls right at people. Zach Watson came through with two big base hits. Obviously, his home run was enormous. He hit it off a curve ball where he usually struggles. After Auburn tied the game, Papierski came back with his big hit. He has really improved over the last half of the season. He got hot at the end of the season last year too. It was really a shame that Poche didn’t get credit for the victory. He met the challenge like he usually does.”
