FROM THE LOCKER ROOM

Coach Paul Mainieri’s comments: “Alex is throwing 92 and 93 miles per hour and, all of a sudden, he comes with that hard-breaking ball. That’s hard to hit and a challenge for hitters. Our guys did a great job at the plate against (Shaffer), particularly in the third. They took advantage of his mistakes when he got the ball up on some two-strike pitches.”
