Hey FF, sorry for the slow response. I appreciate the SEC support and I feel the same way. Of course I love LSU too but I pull for every SEC team come bowl season but especially so in a title game. OTOH, with so many Catholics in LA, I could also understand that allegience.
As for the game itself, I think we had a big advantage over ND in experience, especially in title games, with the players and the coaching staff. I think Brian Kelly is a good coach but he had a horrible game plan. He wanted to make sure his team was aggressive and not intimidated, that part I get, but that doesn't mean you have to try and attack our strengths. When you look at great coaches on big games and their game plans, they always try to find a way to match up their strengths against your weakness. They use formations to get their best against your worse. In no way did ND do that on either side of the ball. That was a head scratcher.
I do think we're in for some SEC fatigue in the playoffs. There will be competing agendas on how to pick the top 4 teams in the country and some won't necessarily want the BEST 4 teams in. That would be a huge mistake if "we" allow that to occur and it will hurt the game. If things continue as they've been the last several seasons, not having two SEC teams in the playoffs would be total BS. I'm sorry but there is more to being a great team than winning a weak conference (looking at you B1G).
It will still be an imperfect system but if the 4 best teams aren't included, despite conference affiliation, then someone is getting screwed. I agree with you...it appears to me that the SEC is in the most likely position to take one in the shorts in 2014 because of SEC fatigue and that is a shame. It's not about ego's or even the money IMO. It's about these kids working their tails off to earn the chance to accomplish a goal and if that is stolen from them, what message are we teaching them?
