Mullen talking bye week

Mississippi State is at the midway point of its season.

Sure they are only a third of the way through the schedule but taking into account fall camp the Bulldogs bye week could not have come at a better time according to Dan Mullen.

"The bye week comes at a pretty good time for us right now," Mullen said. "Obviously we've started the season where we wanted to be at 4-0 and you couldn't have had a better start. I want to continue to improve on our performance and get better as we go. The results to be 4-0 is a great place to be. When you look at the bye week, when you start training camp at the beginning of August you're almost at the midpoint of the season right now. "

MSU has three practices scheduled this week and will give the players the weekend off to return home, see their families and recharge their batteries. But the rest will not come for many of the Bulldogs underclassmen until after the work is done this week in practice.

"I think our guys are going to have the opportunity to get refreshed this week," Mullen said. "We're getting a lot of older guys rest and getting them healthy and getting some younger guys reps and continuing to develop them."

One of the focuses at practice this week will be State's pass rush on defense. The Bulldogs have five sacks on the year led by sophomore defensive end Preston Smith with two.
