No. 19 Mississippi State is looking to continue its strong start taking on Tennessee tonight in a primetime 8 p.m. matchup at Davis Wade Stadium.
The Bulldogs and their 20th straight sellout crowd are hoping to get off to their first 6-0 start since 1999. MSU has won seven straight dating back to last season and are 2-0 so far in Southeastern Conference play.
Tennessee has won six straight in the series and holds the edge 28-15-1. The Bulldogs have not won since a 24-21 comeback victory in 1994. The Vols are 5-4 in games played in Starkville including a 33-21 win in 2007.
The last meeting between the two schools came in 2008 with Tennessee claiming a 34-3 contest at Neyland Stadium. The Volunteers led 6-3 at halftime in that contest before scoring four unanswered touchdowns in the second half including two interceptions returned for scores.
State is coming off a 27-14 road win over Kentucky last week on the bluegrass. The Bulldogs rolled up 427 yards on offense with Tyler Russell throwing for 269 yards and two touchdowns. LaDarius Perkins added 110 yards on the ground and a score while Chad Bumphis hauled in nine passes for 104 yards and a touchdown.
