It was a popular theory that Missouri was able to throw the ball so successfully against Illinois because the Illini were focused on stopping the run. Even Gabbert suggested that may have been the case.

"In the first half, they were kind of spying D-Wash on the run, they weren't really accounting for me," Gabbert said. "That was probably one of their main focal points all week stopping D-Wash just because he had such a great game against them last year and they know what he can do with the football."

But Jared Perry had a different theory.

"I probably think they were in the TV too much," said the senior wideout. "Lee Corso and them was picking them to win. We came out and we had a plan and we executed it."
