Bulldogs bury the Bonnies, 105-53

STARKVILLE, Miss., - Mississippi State took out a season of frustration and a stressful week of exams all out on St. Bonaventure on Saturday.

The Bulldogs blew out St. Bonaventure 105-53 by tying a school record with 16 3-pointers on the afternoon in front of 3,344 fans at Humphrey Coliseum.

"We came out with energy and that was Bulldog basketball," said MSU center Jarvis Varnado. "That is how we dreamed of playing like today. Everybody just came out excited about playing and just wanted to work hard to win the game and that's what happened. That was the best performance of the year."

MSU improved to 5-2 with the win shooting an impressive 59.7-percent from the field. The Bulldogs were also 16-of-28 from downtown outscoring St. Bonaventure 48-6 behind the arc.

"I thought Mississippi State played extremely well, the best I've seen them play with the games that I've watched on tape," said St. Bonaventure head coach Mark Schmidt. "When they shoot the ball the way they did today with Varnado inside they are really tough to beat. 16-for-28 and by the time we knew it we were down by 20 and the game was over."

Ravern Johnson led State scoring 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting including knocking down four of his six trey attempts.
