Visit moves Spartans up Ohio DE's list

Dublin (Ohio) Coffman defensive end Brad Carrico was one of several impressive Midwestern prospects on Michigan State's campus Sunday for a junior day, and SpartanMag.com caught up with the 6-6, 255-pounder to get his impressions of the Spartans.

"I loved Michigan State. It was a great visit. I got to meet most of the coaches. I liked everyone that I met on staff. They're all great people and seemed like great coaches as well," Carrico said. "The campus was beautiful and I really enjoyed seeing all their facilities, which were also very nice. Their new football complex that they put in is top of the line for sure, and their weight room is also top of the line."

When asked to name something specifically that stood out during his visit, Carrico, like many of the prospects SpartanMag.com has talked to this week, mentioned the atmosphere during the Ohio State-MSU basketball game. It seems members of the Izzone made him feel like a wanted man.

"The biggest thing that probably stood out to me was the fan base. We went to the basketball game and it was crazy in there. The students, a couple of them came over and said a couple things to the recruits, like, 'Come to Michigan State, we want you,'" Carrico shared. "And just the support for the athletic programs that they have at Michigan State was probably the thing that stuck out a lot to me, and also the academic support program they have. It's very strong, which is very cool and stuck out a lot also."

Heading into the visit, Carrico was planning to talk to the coaches about what position he is projected to play for the Spartans, and he got some answers. In an interview with this site last week, Carrico indicated the staff had talked to him about playing defensive end or offensive line.

"They did talk to me more about what position I'd be playing, if I did choose to go to Michigan State, and that would be defensive end. At least that's how Coach (Mike) Tressel said he's thinking, because he's a defensive coach," Carrico said.
