Matulis picks up verbal offer from MSU

Lake Worth, Fla., offensive tackle Mike Matulis made his first trip up to visit Mississippi State on Feb. 19.

The 6-foot-6, 277-pounder did not receive a scholarship offer that day but recently that changed. Matulis was given a verbal offer by the Bulldog staff after a recent phone conversation.

"Mississippi State has said they were going to offer when I called them," Matulis said. "UCF was the first school that I visited then it was Mississippi State and then Vanderbilt. (Mississippi State) didn't offer me while I was there but when I called them they told me they would be offering."

Matulis' visit to Starkville was part of a three-day tour in which he toured Central Florida, MSU and Vanderbilt and now has been offered by all three.

The Bulldogs campus seemed to leave an impression on the Park Vista High School standout.

"It was a very beautiful school," Matulis said of State. "I liked the campus a lot. I liked the coaches' energy. That was amazing. The players, the facilities and the energy was just amazing."

Matulis has attended the spring game at Miami and is on the road this weekend to LSU to watch his brother, Chris Matulis, pitch. Chris Matulis is a sophomore left-hander for the Tigers and sports a 5-1 record with a 3.82 ERA this season.
