Coker ready to get started

Marcus Coker keeps a pretty low profile, but his play on the football field speaks volumes. As a senior, the humble running back put up huge numbers, rushing for 1,626 yards and 20 touchdowns despite a leg injury slowing him down the second half of the season. Now, the 6-foot-1, 222-pound Coker is ready to take his talents to Iowa City and play for the Hawkeyes. We caught up with Coker this week talk about when he arrives in Iowa City, what number he will be wearing, how he won the honor of Gentleman of the Year in the state of Maryland, and much more.

Q: Do you know when you are moving out to Iowa this summer?

COKER: I don't know the exact day yet, but I know I'm going out sometime in June. Probably like the third week of June.

Q: When do you graduate?

COKER: June 4.

Q: Are you going to be in Iowa most of the summer?

COKER: Yeah, most likely.

Q: What are your goals in getting out there early?

COKER: Just to catch up, start learning the playbook, and get acclimated to the system and everything.

Q: Have you been working out with their program since signing day?

COKER: Yeah.

Q: What were your first impressions when you started?

COKER: It was a lot of the same stuff I was already doing, so it wasn't too bad.

Q: Do you just work out at school with some of your teammates?

COKER: Yeah.

Q: Going back to last month, what was it like going out to Iowa's spring game now that you're almost there and practicing yourself?

COKER: It was a good experience. I was just picturing myself being out there, reading the defenses, making cuts, and making plays.
