Maryland LB plans to visit MSU
With five-star linebacker prospect Lawrence Thomas and linebacker candidate Taiwan Jones already committed to Michigan State, the Spartans have the ability to be very selective about any other linebackers they add in the 2011 class.
One linebacker prospect the Spartans are keeping a close watch on is Darien Harris of DeMatha High School in Hyattsville (Md.), and SpartanMag.com caught up with the 6-1, 210-pounder Wednesday night to find out where his recruitment stands in regards to MSU.
"(MSU) offered around three weeks ago. It came as a surprise actually. I hadn't really heard from them before then," said Harris, who added he also has offers from Purdue, Kansas, Central Florida, Illinois and Ohio. "But they had offered our defensive tackle, Darian Cooper, and he had told me that I had been in their minds. And then Coach (Ted) Gill showed up at one of our gym workouts and offered me a scholarship, and I was really humbled for that experience. It was my first major offer from a major BCS conference, so it definitely did come as a big surprise."
"It definitely means a lot," Harris added of MSU being his first offer. "I'm still going to make sure I weigh all my options the same as of right now. But definitely that first BCS conference offer definitely sticks out in my mind. It's definitely one I always talk about, and one I'll always remember."
