Demps leads UF into NCAA Championships

{db]Jeff Demps[/db] isn't the first Florida athlete to have success in both football and track. But of those who have, he just might be the most talented.

As a tailback, he's a starter with game-changing ability.

On the track, he's an elite performer in the 100-meter dash, the sport's signature event.

At the NCAA outdoor track & field championships, which begin Wednesday in Eugene, Ore., Demps not only will be among the favorites in the 100, but will compete in the 4x100 relay. If he does well in either or both of those events, Demps' team has a legitimate shot to win the national title (the Gators' were second last year).

"The big thing with Jeff, with Dennis Mitchell, with John Capel and any other great sprinter or hurdler, they all have a great amount of God-given talent," Florida coach Mike Holloway said. "They also all have that moxie about them. There's no worry with Jeff Demps. The better the competition, the better he is."
