Clark has Spartans high on list after visit

Yesterday Michigan State played host to one of the top offensive line prospects in the nation, Donavon Clark of Finneytown High School in Ohio. SpartanMag.com caught up with the massive 6-foot-5, 310-pound prospect and got the latest details on his recruitment.

Clark is rated a 3-star prospect by Rivals.com and the #47 offensive tackle in the nation. With that being said, many of the players ranked ahead of him do not have scholarships from the likes of Michigan State, Wisconsin, Tennessee and USC. Clark is also rated the # prospect in the Buckeye State by OhioVarsity.com

SpartanMag.com asked Clark about his visit to East Lansing.

This was my second time up there. I was up there last year for a camp they had. I really enjoyed talking to the coaches actually and getting to know them. It was good to sit down and talk to coach Dantonio about some things and stuff.

The Spartans have yet to sign an offensive line prospect for the class of 2011 and a main reasons why is due to the fact that they are focused on several elite prospects like Clark. Coach Dantonio and his staff are looking to build on the tremendous group they signed last year which was led by Ohio products like Skyler Schofner and Travis Jackson. Clark, who is athletic enough to play any position on the line, would be a strong addition. SpartanMag.com asked Clark where the Spartans sit in his recruitment and if he has a timetable for making his college choice?

They stand pretty high right now; it was a good thing I came up there because I didn't get to see everything last year when I was up. I wanted to see the campus and facilities looked and stuff and how the coaching staff was and felt towards me.

The focus for Clark now is shifting toward his senior season. He informed SpartanMag.com that he is optimistic that they can make some noise this year and make a serious playoff run.

Our team is looking pretty good. We got some good players this year that weren't apart of the program for a couple of years, but now they're back in the mix x and should do some good things for us.

Clark is being recruited for the Spartans by Coach Harlon Barnett, though offensive line coach Dan Roushar and even Head Coach Mark Dantonio are also involved.

SpartanMag.com will be sure to follow the recruitment of Clark in the coming weeks. Their is a great chance the Spartans will invite Clark and his family back up early this fall to see a game and catch the atmosphere at Michigan State.
