Milton transitioning to life at Hargrave

Leaving home for the first time is a tough transition.

But for a rising high school senior it can be even more difficult. Pineville, La., running back Derrick Milton's enrollment at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia has been challenging at times but should be worth it in the end.

"It was rough at first," Milton said. "It was a long ride down here but on the way I was thinking how this is going to help me get my academics in and help me get to college and how much of a better player I'd be."

Even though prep school's roster consists of older players that Milton he has been accepted by his new teammates with open arms.

"There is much love up here and it's like a family," Milton said. "I'm the youngest guy and I've earned my respect on and off the field. We're all a big family so they don't look at me any differently."

The 5-foot-11, 191-pounder has already noticed some differences on the field from was he was accustomed to at the high school level in Louisiana.
