Izzo sees progress in 1-point win over Oakland

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Michigan State held a 10-point lead over Oakland midway through the second half and by won by just one point, 77-76, as time expired in the Spartans' final non conference game before a much-needed week off.

Given his irritation with way Michigan State played earlier in the week against Syracuse at Madison Square Garden, it was widely assumed that Tom Izzo would be disgusted with a narrow victory over an in-state mid-major program. The Spartan coach had a different response.

"I thought we played awfully well, I really did," Izzo said. "I think you have to give a lot of credit to Oakland. We did everything we wanted to do. We wanted to get 60 shots, we got 62. We wanted to shoot better from the line, we shot 75 percent. We wanted to get 15-20 threes up, we got 15. We wanted to outrebound them, we outrebounded them by two, which does not sound like much, but this team is maybe one of the best rebounding teams I've watched."
