Holmes makes it official
Virginia Tech picked up a pledge this afternoon from running back Michael Holmes out of Harrisonburg, Va. The 6-foot-0, 200-pounder picked the Hokies over offers from Virginia and James Madison.
"I committed about three days ago," he said. "The coaches I think were really happy about it. They were glad I finally committed. They had been waiting for a real long time.
"Coach Newsome kind of told me I fit in good with their program and he'll treat me well."
So, what made him decide for Tech?
"I just kind of think they have a good program, a really good football team," he said. "People get recruited really well out there.
"Their running backs make it to the NFL and I want to be one of the next ones."
The coaches were important factors too.
"Yeah, I think they are really good, relaxed and down-to-earth," he said. "I think Coach Beamer is a real good guy. I want to play for him."
Holmes visited the Hokies earlier this fall for the James Madison game, which helped in his decision.
"I visited for that game, and it's the vibe down there and how the program really works."
As for playing time, Holmes will have to work for it.
"They haven't promised anything, I think I just have to work for my spot."
