Rippy considers USC
McKees Rocks (Pa.) linebacker Deaysean Rippy is about to learn just how big his recruitment can get.
Rippy emerged as one of the top prospects at the U.S. Army National Combine team in San Antonio. Rivals.com named Rippy to its all-combine team.
USC coaches already made contact with Rippy to express their interest.
"Coach [Keary] Colbert hit me up on Facebook," Rippy said. "He said they needed somebody like me. Pretty much all the coaches say the same thing."
Distance may be an obstacle for Rippy, who said he wasn't very familiar with USC.
"I don't know much about USC. I know they're a big program with a lot of talent," Rippy said. "It's California, so I'd consider them for one of my official visits. Now that I know it's there, it might be something I do. It's way out there for me. It's kind of too far, but they have a great program."
Florida is one of the progams that interests Rippy the most. The Gators were one of the earliest entrants into his recruitment.
"Florida is right down the coast, though," Rippy said. "I've been to Florida plenty of times. I went there over the summer to visit the campus and took my family. The players were family-oriented and they welcomed me with open arms. That's something that I'm looking for on visits."
Wherever he ends up, Rippy is eager to prove he belongs.
"A lot of people tell me I'm a kid from up north and I'm not as fast as the SEC guys," Rippy said. "I tell them I think I can keep up."
