Red Raiders offer 2013 LB
While the grind of the 2012 recruiting cycle rolls on, Texas Tech is wasting no time getting started with a few targets on their 2013 list. One of those is Killen (Texas) outside linebacker Akeem Harrison.
"I've been hearing a lot from Texas Tech. They've sent a lot of letters and I've seen their scouts at my school a few times," Harrison said. "I haven't had a chance to talk with anyone in person yet, but they did offer me not too long ago."
Aside from Tech, Harrison listed Arkansas, Boise State, Texas A&M, TCU, and UTEP as the programs he's hearing from the most right now. With an offer in hand from Boise State, he's already had to begin considering what it would be like to play outside of the Lone Star State.
"I'm kind of thinking that I would like to stay in Texas to play college football really. It's not going to be like a guarantee or anything, but I think I would probably like to stay in state if I have the chance," he said. "If it's not too far away I'll consider it, though. I'd like to be able to stay close enough to my mom and my family, stuff like that. I'm not saying that I have to be close to Killeen really, but just the state of Texas in general. If I can play in it, or close to it, that would probably be my best option."
The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder indicated that he's looking for a city environment, with a small town feel to it.
"I want to go somewhere that will let me feel like I'm home. I want a place where the team has a good connection with the community, just like a big family," Harrison said. "I'd like to get into a city that's not too big, but not too small. I kind of like the laid back feel, so I'm just looking for a place that I can be comfortable at."
So far Harrison has made plans to attend camps at Texas Tech, Baylor, and Texas A&M this summer. He indicated that he came into this process with two of those schools already standing out to a certain extent.
"I'd say I'm really liking Tech and A&M so far. I kind of came into this with those two as the teams I guess I could say I was focused on the most," he said. "I've still got a long way to go, though. I'm just keeping all of my options open right now, but those are two who were kind of standing out to me to begin with."
Harrison currently holds offers from Boise State and Tech, and has been shown interest by Arkansas, Baylor, SMU, TCU, Texas A&M, and UTEP.
