Red Raiders offer Louisiana defensive tackle

Carencro (La.) defensive tackle Jacoby Briscoe recently added an offer from Texas Tech, and assistant coach Robert Prunty has been the primary recruiter for the 2012 prospect.

"It's a brand new relationship. I haven't really heard from them at all before now. It's the first time I've ever even talked to someone from Texas Tech," Briscoe said. "Our relationship is getting there. I see something special in Coach Prunty and I really like Texas Tech just from talking with him. He makes everything about their program seem so great and I'm really enjoying the interaction with him right now. He seems like a really good person outside of what he does as a football coach."

Briscoe mentioned LSU, Alabama, Ole Miss, Memphis, and Texas A&M as the programs he's heard from the most to this point. The 6-foot-4, 290-pounder is somewhat focused on the SEC, given the amount of NFL talent that comes out of the league every year.

"The SEC usually produces the most NFL players, but wherever you go the NFL is going to find you if you're good enough to make it to that level. So, I'm not saying I have to stay in the SEC to get there," he said. "It takes a lot of hard work at any school to get to the league, but it seems like you have a better chance of getting there out of the SEC."

Briscoe attended junior days at LSU and Louisiana-Lafayette this spring. Texas Tech looks to be in serious contention for an unofficial visit this summer.

"Oh most definitely. No doubt about it, I'd like to see their program and campus in person," Briscoe said. "I plan on going to camps at Alabama, LSU, and UL next month. I'm really hoping to have a chance to get out to Texas Tech next month too."

With interest from several different points on the map, and offers beginning to roll in, Briscoe isn't likely to make a decision any time soon.

"I'm just waiting to see what my options are going to be," he said. "It kind of feels like all of this is just getting started so I may be hearing from some programs in the end that I haven't even thought about yet. I would imagine that I'll be making a decision close to the end of next season."
