Interest picking up in Mississippi wide receiver

Frederick Brown hit the camp circuit earlier this month as a little-known prospect.

After an impressive performance at Ole Miss' elite camp on June 4, however, the 6-foot-1, 166-pound wide receiver from Jackson (Jim Hill), Miss., has emerged as a player to keep an eye on this fall.

"They were talking about how I had great hands and great feet and I got off on my routes good," Brown said, referring to the Ole Miss staff. (Ole Miss wide receivers coach Gunter Brewer) said he really liked me and he wanted to see me again. He said he wants me to come to more of their camps and he's looking forward to seeing me again.

"(Brewer) said I really don't have any flaws. He said it's on me to get a lot of reps and constantly doing it over and over again. They want to look at me during my senior year. He said they want to look at me on film and live on Friday nights."

Brown said he has yet to pick up any offers, though Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, Nebraska and Memphis are all in contact. The Bulldogs and Golden Eagles, Brown said, have been recruiting him the hardest.

"The reason I've been overshadowed is Jim Hill hasn't really been on a winning streak," Brown said. "The last couple of years we've been losing. Hopefully this year, we're going to make it to the playoffs. We've got a new coach, a new quarterback, a new team. We've got a lot of seniors this year and hopefully you'll see Jim Hill in the playoffs."

Brown said he plans to return to Oxford next month for the Rebels' July 23 one-day senior camp.

"It's a nice campus, a nice environment," Brown said. "I really like the school. I like the coaches and the receiver coach, I'd like to bond with him a little bit more."
