Fla. WR plans UA visit

The University of Alabama is still looking for a go-to wide receiver in the 2012 recruiting class, and one of its top targets is Winter Park, Fla., wide out D'Vario Montgomery.

Montgomery said he doesn't plan on attending any camps this summer, but he is in the process of trying to visit as many schools as he can before August, and a trip to Tuscaloosa to visit UA is on his slate.

As a junior, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound receiver turned heads by making 45 catches for 1,100 yards and 15 touchdowns. Montgomery compared himself to former UA star Julio Jones with his ability to go get the ball and run crisp routes.

"I always can make something out of nothing," Montgomery said. "If you throw the ball up, I'm going to go get it. I always get the ball. I can see myself as the next Julio (Jones) if I go to Alabama."

The Rivals.com four-star said he speaks with the Alabama coaching staff once a week.

"They said that they love my (physicality) and my ability to come off the ball," Montgomery said. "Coach Saban said I would fit in well with the offense. He told me that they could really use me there."

Even though he hasn't visited the UA campus yet, Montgomery said he knows Alabama is a good school academically. He plans to major in architecture.

"I hear the academics there are really good," Montgomery said. "Academics are important to me and I want to make sure the school I go to is a good school."

Tim Shifflet, Montgomery's head coach at Winter Park High School, said he doesn't see a weakness from his top receiver.

"His ball skills are phenomenal," Shifflet said. "He works hard and is a leader on our team and understands his role. He intimidates cornerbacks and safeties, even with double coverage because he's so physical. It's just like his jumping up to get a rebound, he boxes out and goes and gets the ball."

Shifflet said the school to win over Montgomery must establish a good relationship with him, and let him play wide receiver.

"Right now, he's high on Alabama and Florida, even UCF and USF because they are just around the corner," Shifflet said. "He's going to be a great asset to the team he plays for."

In addition to Alabama, Montgomery has 29 offers from schools like Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Tennessee.

"There is not much separating any of the schools right now," Montgomery said. "I'm still looking at what I like and don't like. I want to talk to all of the schools before I make my choice."
