Urban Meyer and his staff continue to set the recruiting trail on fire. Meyer and company have been contacting some of the nation's best prospects over the last week and on Saturday, a new offer was extended to Durham (N.C.) Hillside prospect Jamal Marcus. The 6-foot-2, 219-pound linebacker/defensive end was excited to get the news.

"The assistant head coach and linebackers coach (Luke Fickell) called me up," said Marcus. "It felt good to get the opportunity to play for Urban Meyer. It's a really good feeling. I feel like he's a good coach that can win a lot of games and he wants me to be a key part of the defense next year."

The offer from Ohio State comes as a linebacker and given the current depth chart at the position, Marcus says he seriously considering the Buckeyes.

"There's a lot of schools that are looking at me as of right now but Ohio State is very high on my radar," he said. "They're in need of linebackers so that's definitely a school that I'm looking at right now."

Over the next few weeks, Marcus will attempt to setup his official visits. While he hasn't eliminated any of the schools that have offered, he does have an idea of a few schools that should be line for a visit.

"I don't have any visits setup yet," he explained. "Come January I'll have a lot of them setup. Florida might get an official, Ohio State might get an official, Auburn might get an official, North Carolina might get one. I really don't have a set group right now."

With visits not likely coming until January, it should be a late decision for Marcus.

"I think maybe at the end of January," he said. "I might wait until Signing Day though."

On the field, Marcus and his Hillside team had a strong season in 2011 and for those who may not be familiar with his game, he laid out his strengths as a player.

"We finished 11-2 so we did pretty well," he said. "We won the state championship last year. I feel individually I did great. I keep my players motivated and I feel like I'm aggressive and that I'm a smart player."
