Jackson finds a home at safety

Zachary Jackson was signed by Mississippi State as a three-star athlete in 2011.

Like many high school quarterbacks, Jackson shuffled around at several positions upon arriving at the college level. He practiced his entire redshirt season at linebacker but shifted to safety in the spring and finally feels like he has found the right spot.

"Spring went good," Jackson said. "I got a chance to work with the ones and twos. They worked my out at linebacker my freshman year and now they've moved me back to safety. It's working out better than it was but it helped me get more physical."

Jackson feels that his time as a prep signal caller gives him an advantage while playing in the secondary. He picked off several passes in practice during spring drills but cannot help but miss calling the shots on offense sometimes.
