First Intra-squad Scrimmage is in the books

As family and friends gathered on the plain at West Point, the initial forecast suggested overcast skies and brief showers, but the two gave way to pastel blue skies with the New York mountains serving as the backdrop.

All serving as a perfect way to kick-off Acceptance Day (A-Day).

The former new cadets officially became plebes, and of course sprinkled in the 2016 class were the many frosh members of the Black Knights football squad.

For those players, along with their upperclassmen teammates, the A-Day parade was just the beginning of what would be a very long and eventful day.

Subsequent to the morning parade (10am), you could see members of the team make their way down to the stadium, as they were getting set for their 1pm intra-squad scrimmage taking place at Michie Stadium.

Saturday's scrimmage saw the team run off at least 100 plays, allowing for the Army staff to players go at it for the first time in this type of venue.

Although there were several players that looked in mid-season form, there were several who were adorning the red-jersey, suggested that were side-lined for the day due to some physical set-back.

Some notable were captain, Jarrett Mackey; wide receiver, Chevaughn Lawrence; Hayden Pierce; frosh running back, Cedrik Bell, who appeared disappointed that he was able to participate in the day's activities. Also sidelined were Corey Watts and Colin Linkul.

Scrimmage Highlights

- Sophomore slotback Terry Baggett, took advantage of a key block from fellow running mate, Raymond Maples and offensive guard Frank Allen, as he hit pay dirt from 39 yards out.

- Speaking of Maples ... the junior saw heaven open as he pranced up the middle from 25 yards out and untouched.

- Kicker Eric Osteen, who is battling frosh Dan Grochowski, launched one kickoff, deep into the end zone. However, Grochowski was equally as impressive on the day, who all his field goals on the day.

- Wide Receiver/Slotback, Malcolm Brown's day ended short, as it appear the senior may have hurt his hamstring. More to come later on Brown's official diagnosis.
