TU confident in Green
In Tulsa's season opening game at Iowa State on Saturday, plenty of the attention will be on Golden Hurricane quarterback Cody Green, and rightfully so. TU coaches are confident that the transfer from Nebraska will be successful in leading their offense this season.
"I think he has really transitioned from a guy we were hoping would be the quarterback to really being our team leader," said Tulsa Head Coach Bill Blankenship. "His play has backed that up. It's very tough to be the leader of the team if your play does not mirror the play you think your leader should have. He's been very effective offensively, very efficient throwing the football, managing the game and making the proper checks."
Green sat out last year at TU after a mid-summer transfer from Nebraska. He had a chance to study the Hurricane offense and watch G.J. Kinne quarterback his final season. Now it's time to put what he learned into action.
"The tools that he brings to the table as a quarterback really mesh well with what we're trying to accomplish," Blankenship described. "I'm particularly partial to quarterbacks that are cerebral. They love to study and put the time in, and he fits in that category to a T.
