Bulldogs begin practicing

Later this afternoon Rick Ray will debut his Mississippi State squad for the first time as part of Maroon Madness on conjunction with the Pumpkinpalooza event on Main Street in downtown Starkville.

At 5 p.m. the Bulldogs will unveil their new uniforms on an outdoor court in a 3-point and slam dunk competition along with Vic Schaefer and the women's basketball team on hand as well.

"They've done a good job of bringing some excitement to Maroon Madness," Ray said. "Pairing that with the Pumpkinpalooza is something that is really smart. I think Chad (Thomas) did a good job with that and Gregg (Ellis) did a good job of that with thinking forward and outside the box. I think it is going to be a unique situation with our guys being outside in a different venue.

"People that may not have wanted to come to Maroon Madness now will come by and see our guys and want to stop by and see us. What you have is a built-in audience and the guys are looking forward to it. We also have some recruits coming on campus that are looking forward to it. It keeps going back to excitement for the game of basketball and to me that's the most important thing. Not just from our guys, our staff but from our fans."

Also attending the event will be several elite prospects from the 2014 and 2015 recruiting class. Demetrius Houston, Maurice Dunlap, Kevaughn Allen, Malik Newman and Joniah White are all expected to take unofficial visits to Starkville.
