Izzo expects tough test in opener with UConn

EAST LANSING - Michigan State was supposed to beat UConn the last time the two teams met in the Maui Invitational two years ago.

But the Spartans lost 70-67 to ballclub fronted by dynamic senior Kemba Walker, who scored 30 points in a victory over No. 2 ranked Michigan State.
UConn was unranked before the Maui Classic. The Huskies were ranked No. 4 the following week.

Michigan State no longer has to worry about Walker, who is in his second season with the Charlotte Bobcats after being selected in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft. But this year's UConn team is flying under once again entering the Armed Forces Classic, which pits No. 14 Michigan State against unranked UConn in a game that will be played in a hangar at Ramstein Air Base in Germany this Friday at 5:30 pm.
