V-Cast: QB competition or QB crisis?

EAST LANSING - Ideally, last Saturday's jersey scrimmage would have been used by either fifth-year senior Andrew Maxwell or sophomore Connor Cook to pull away in the competition for the job of starting quarterback.

Instead, the struggles of the two frontrunners has opened the door for an expanded position battle, which now extends beyond redshirt freshman Tyler O'Connor and also includes true freshman Damion Terry.

Terry, who threw for 240 yards and added 40 yards on the ground on Saturday, took an equal number of snaps with the ones at practice on Monday as Maxwell, Cook, and O'Connor.

Position coach Brad Salem diplomatically referred to the quartet of scholarship quarterbacks competing for a starting job as co-ones after practice on Monday. He also indicated that the competition at quarterback would go on as long as head coach Mark Dantonio deemed necessary to find a starter.

Following interviews Jim Comparoni and Paul Konyndyk did their best to sort through the latest developments at quarterback and their potential impact as the 2013 season rapidly approaches.
