California RB on MSU radar

The Michigan State staff is looking to add a dynamic running back to the class of 2014 and a few select players are on the list. One of them is Demario Richard of Palmdale High School in California. SpartanMag.com caught up with the 5-foot-10, 200-pound prospect and got the details on his recruitment.

Under Head Coach Mark Dantonio the Michigan State Spartans have had some outstanding running backs such as Javon Ringer, Edwin Baker, Jehuu Caulcrick and LeVeon Bell. The Spartans are planning on taking two running backs this year in the hope of finding the next great one.

We asked Richard what type of contact he has had with Michigan State and some of the other schools that are involved.

"Yes, I hear from Coach Barnett," he said. "I am supposed to go out there for a visit on November 2nd. I am also looking at Washington, West Virginia and Arizona State. Those are the schools that are on me the most."

As a junior Richard rushed for over 1900-yards and scored 24 touchdowns for Palmdale High School. Rivals.com rates him a 3-star recruit and the #51 running back in the nation for the class of 2014. All of the schools mentioned above have extended him a scholarship as have close to 20 other Division 1 programs.

Based on his list of top choices, Richard has no problem going away to get his education and further his football career. We asked him about his thoughts on Michigan State University.

"It would be a great experience to go to a school like Michigan State. That is a big time college football stage. It is a different type if game out there, that's where a lot of the big boys play."

With so many outstanding options, Richard said he has a good idea of what he will be looking for when it comes to making his college choice.

"The school that fits me the best and where I feel comfortable," he said.

In addition to Michigan State, Richard plans on checking out several of his other top suitors in the coming weeks. He hopes to make his college choice around December 2nd when he celebrates his birthday.

SpartanMag.com will be sure to keep in contact with Richard in the coming weeks. The November 2nd game against the University of Michigan is shaping up to be a big visitor weekend for Michigan State. The staff will be hosting several key 2014 recruits and a plethora of top 2015 prospects.

Matt Dorsey's Take:: Richard is on the short list of running backs the Spartans are interested in for the class of 2015. He joins players like Chris James, Madre London, Jeff Jones and Kalen Ballage. It will be interesting to see how the dominos fall in the coming weeks as many of the above players are taking visits and could pop at any time.
