Tristen Hoge visits BYU and continues to gain more offers

A few weeks ago BYU played Georgia Tech and on hand were several recruits. Several in state recruits as well as one from Idaho that BYU is very interested in. In fact pretty much every school in the nation is interested in Tristen Hoge a 2015 prospect from Pocatello, ID who plays at Taysom Hill's alma-mater Highland High.

The week leading up to the BYU game Hoge received offers from Oregon State and UCLA. Hoge was very busy this summer taking visits to schools around the country, those schools included LSU, Penn State, Notre Dame, Florida, Stanford, Penn State, Utah and BYU, all schools who have offered.

The week after the BYU game Hoge headed to Notre Dame who is one of the leaders in his recruitment. Thoughts were that he might commit to ND while on the visit but something he did not do, saying he still has schools who he wants to visit. "I have wanted to visit UCLA for a while and that is one that I really want to go visit, because of I have done some research on them and I would like to check it out and the other would be North Carolina. I would have done some research on them as well and that is a campus I would really like to check it out," said Hoge.

So what did Hoge think of his visit to BYU? "I hung out with the most with Coach Tujague and watched him coach on the sidelines during pregame warm-ups and it was mostly just me and my family. We also spoke with the Athletic Director (Tom Holmoe) and he is really a great guy." Hoge continued saying, "I liked the after game in the locker room and Coach Mendenhall with is his speech and that was really cool experience. I got to talk to some of the players and congratulate them and talked to Taysom, I know him a little bit because he went to Highland, so it was good talking to him. It was good to watch the pre-game and get a true feel of what they do before the game."

BYU certainly will need to work hard in getting Hoge to come to BYU. These next month could be very big for BYU's recruiting efforts. Wisconsin Coach Gary Anderson has plucked a few from the state of Utah and does not look to let up any time soon. Notre Dame is continually on the list of top recruits minds. Currently Tyler Luatua has both BYU and Notre Dame in his top 5 and now Hoge.

The good news for BYU is Coach Tujague is an impactful coach and recruiter. "I have kept in good contact with Coach Tujague. I call him every week, I love his energy and that's what I like in a coach is that energy. I also like that he cares about his players, and like they say once you leave your coach becomes like a father figure. He just has an energy that he brings to the football field that makes you want to play football. He has this energy that he transfers to his players; he makes me want to play the game on Saturday." Hoge continued about the BYU coaching staff saying, "the coaches at BYU are always optimistic; they don't focus on the negative and that is what I like."

Hoge plans on graduating early and will plan on committing the next summer or early his senior year. Hoge is currently rated a 4* prospect at 6-foot-4, 285-pounds. We will continue to keep Cougar Nation updated on the Cougars progress on the recruitment of Hoge.
