Matthews loves USC visit

Cheraw, S.C., defensive end Cliff Matthews, one of the top prospects in the Palmetto State's class of 2007, made the short trip to Columbia over the weekend to take in South Carolina's annual Garnet and Black Spring Game.


"I had a great time in Columbia," the 6-foot-5, 235-pound Matthews said. "I got the chance to talk with a lot of the coaches and some of the players and the recruits. The whole day was good."


Matthews, who also plays tight end at the high school level, discussed the possibility of taking some offensive snaps in Steve Spurrier's system should he sign with the Gamecocks.


Matthews focused on six teams.


"USC, Georgia, Clemson, Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina and North Carolina State are my main teams," he said.
