Irish won't settle

Charlie Weis doesn't get everything he wants.

If he could, Weis would take a black Sharpie to his depth chart after the Blue-Gold Game next weekend, mark in his starters and reserves then hop on a private plane to start recruiting. There's no point in filling out a depth chart that's sure to grow deeper once 25 incoming freshmen arrive this summer.

Until then, Weis won't sweat the uncertainty that comes from not knowing his next right tackle, his starting trio of linebackers (never mind their back-ups) or which quarterback will hold Brady Quinn's clipboard this fall. There are too many options in play across the board, and Weis won't play the prediction game when he doesn't have to do it.

Weis is fond of saying the players determine who plays. He's fine with the real determining not starting until August.
